How do I become a photographer?

I see all these photographers online that have pages and I even hired on for my husbands homecoming shoot! I have always been interesting in becoming one but am unsure of all the steps!What classes will I have to take,whats a great photo shop program,whats a great camera to start off with and also I know since I will be working on my own and people just paying the money straight to me how do I do taxes?Any help is greatly appreciated-Thanks!
