Should I learn Hadoop (Big data)?

Hi,
I'm from the technical back-round and I have been working in a Software firm as a data analyst for quite some time.Few of my friends are switching into Hadoop Jobs. I am also interested in this new technology, but am not sure whether to go for it.Could anyone tell this how this course would help me?
