What is a good brand of hiking boot?

I'm interested in buying some hiking boots, but I'm at a loss as to what brand/style might be the best. I don't have any plans to do any huge, big hikes right now, but wouldn't rule that out for vacations in the future. For now it will be mostly local hikes on local trails on the weekends.

Can someone please give me some guidance on a good brand or type of boot for a hiking beginner? I'm looking to spend no more than around 100 dollars.
