How is Drinking Bottled Water bad for the Environment?

I've heard that drinking bottled water is bad for the environment, and while I can see how this could be the case if someone bought a case and then threw out the bottles, my boyfriend and I make a habit of only buying from vendors that use a high amount of recycled plastic in their bottles.
