What's the difference between film and digital photography?

I mean in terms of IMAGE. yesterday i found some of my old photos shoot with film. i was impressed of how much the image was nicer than digital photos. ok, they were not so clear and fine as digital, but much marked, dinstict and soft.

I really do not what is the difference between film and digital photography? I never take interest in such kinds og things and this will be so much stunning and best time for sure. I will like to have some fun there more and more ahead.
