Private pilot license.?

I've been looking into getting a PPL, and i'd like to know is it worth my money. i'm 18 years old, the school cost 12-14K, so it's a bit steep, but i'd like to know from people who have obtained their license's if it's worth it. It's a lot of money for me, especially since i'm just a student, not a working adult I've been thinking about doing this instead of going to college. and hopefully becoming a commercial pilot. But honestly I have no idea how to obtain this goal, and if it's worth it. Please reply back to this (only serious answers please!)
