Which do you prefer Mechanic or AMT? Empty Which do you prefer Mechanic or AMT?

The modern job title for aircraft mechanics has apparently changed from simply "Mechanic" to "AMT" or "Aircraft Maintenance Technician". I still have the last generation company uniform and it says, "Mechanic" which I prefer. The new ones say "Aviation Maintenance Technician". I think most people's eyes glaze over when they see that long title...if they even bother to read it. Other companies use "AMT" which nobody knows what it stands for and don't care. However when a mechanic walks on the plane or when working down on the ramp, people instantly recognize the fact that he's the mechanic if his uniform says "Mechanic". There is no shame in being a mechanic. In a group of employees standing near the aircraft, the uniform patch that says "Mechanic" is instantly recognizable to the flight crew. Your thoughts?
