Do US security guards carry weapons?

In a lot of movies I've noticed they dress like police and carry weapons but movies are not always accurate. I've just watched "observe and report" and the mall guards had mace,batons,tasers and a torch during the day they also had uniforms that had a badge and stuff do guards in US really have.
